Handwriting, but Way More Fun
Timing Matters, why:

Are YOU Planning to teach handwriting in your homeschool kindergarten?

Before you jump into handwriting, there’s something worth knowing:
Our homeschool handwriting curriculum gives you a full year of free, carefully designed homeschool handwriting instruction for kindergarten. Handwriting isn’t just about putting pencil to paper, it’s a fine motor skill that relies on muscle strength, visual coordination, and control. While many kids start writing at five, some just aren’t ready. Starting too early can lead to bad habits: awkward grips, tired hands, and messy letters that are hard to unlearn later.
When kids are ready, everything works better. They’re more likely to hold the pencil properly, form neat letters, and feel confident about what they’ve written. Instead of getting frustrated, they start strong.

Once they’re ready, keep lessons short and focused. No one needs to write the same letter 45 times. A handful of well-formed letters done with care is much more valuable than a rushed page full of sloppy squiggles. Quality over quantity always wins when it comes to writing.
Always make sure they start with the correct pencil grip and hand position from day one. This sets the foundation for smooth, efficient writing later on and avoids the frustration of having to re-train bad habits down the track.

Begin with clear starting points and step-by-step letter formation. It is best when letters are introduced in groups that are formed in similar manner (ie straight lines first, the diagonals and finally moving onto curves). This helps kids pick up patterns in letter formation and makes learning to write feel easy and natural.
The goal isn’t to push kids to write faster. It’s to help them build good habits from the start, so writing becomes something they can do with ease.
