Teaching phonics doesn't have to be HARD
The Art of Reading Stage 2 picks up seamlessly from where Stage 1 leaves off.
It begins by reviewing and reinforcing Stage 1 phonics concepts while introducing consonant blends, then starts with the most commonly used digraphs. The sequence has been carefully designed to alternate between easier-to-remember and more challenging concepts, giving your child plenty of practice as they progress through Art of Reading Stage 2.
This is a mastery based curriculum that is designed for competency and is not based on grade levels.
Similarly to Stage 1, Art of Reading Stage 2 prioritises high-frequency phonics patterns over sight words, so that your child can decode more words independently without having to memorise a long list of sight words.
As your child progresses through Stage 2, their reading fluency and decoding skills will keep growing.
You will notice blending becomes smoother and reading more automatic in this stage.
The readers in Art of Reading Stage 2 begin to feature more complex and humorous plots to keep your child engaged and motivated every lesson.

Stage 3 introduces more advanced phonics patterns (such as controlled R, schwa, and additional sounds of OU), along with complete comprehensive syllable division, prefixes, and suffixes. It continues the same clear, engaging, one-step-at-a-time approach that was used in Stages 1 and 2.
Your child will keep building reading stamina and fluency while developing the tools to tackle longer words and more complex text with confidence.
Instead of cramming too much into each lesson, we continue to keep things simple and manageable, allowing your child time to absorb, apply, and succeed without ever feeling overloaded with information.
By the end of Stage 3, your child will be ready to move beyond controlled readers and start reading real books independently, confidently, and with genuine understanding.
